Hey, that's what Mom always said!

From: yes and yes:

"I’m bored" is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great, big, vast world that you’ve seen none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless. The fact that you’re alive is amazing, so you don’t get to say "I’m bored."
-Louis CK

Growing up, "bored" wasn't part our vocabulary and certainly wasn't an allowed state. I had no idea other people felt so strongly about this.

Thing is, I think this concept is important. Rejecting boredom means rejecting that you're powerless. If you're not happy, it's up to exactly one person to fix this: yourself.

She probably didn't realize she was giving me such an empowering and important lesson. Knowing what I know about kids now, she probably just wanted me out of her hair for the afternoon. Doesn't matter, the lesson stuck.
